To Blog or Not to Blog...

Once per quarter I create a Technology Newsletter for the staff at the high school where I teach. As I was putting it together today I was thinking...is this something I should turn into a blog? It seems like a perfect way to get teachers talking about technology and how they use it in their classrooms, but my concern is that no one will participate. How can I get teachers blogging? How do I inspire them to read and talk about technology and how they use it? How can I make a difference?

It is funny. If this were my students I would just do it (I already have them blogging). Why is it so hard to put it out there with my peers?

Hi Pam,
I struggle with whether to publish to my blog or publish in paper, when ever I have these choices I publish everywhere. Just as our students have different styles, so do our teachers. Most people haven't learned how to "converse" or "talk back" in the blogosphere, so the paper trail is still a viable option. Did you ask on Twitter if schools allow laptops? we do and I can offer input.

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for the post. You are right, the only way to get them started is to start! I would love to hear your thoughts about kids using personal laptops in school and how your school makes that work.

Pam -

Check out my blog post Learning to Share @ http://googtweetblog.edublogs.org, it addresses this issue.

Pam, our school is part of the State of Maine laptop project. We have integrated them well into the middle school. However, when it moved onto the high school we didn't have a smooth transition, mostly because the staff didn't have the same training on how to integrate into the classroom. We've pulled back and put our laptops into carts and our teachers are finding more purposeful ways to integrate.
You are my new blogger to feature on my techlearning.com/blog today. Welcome!
